Historic Discovery “The Last Will and Testament of Conquistador Andres de Tapia.

Conquistador Andres de Tapia’s origins were uncertain, so was his wife. His will has been discovered and for the first time translated. I have had this information for a year but didn’t know how I was going to present it. Anyway, I became caught up in other research projects and before I knew it a year had past. My friend, a professor, urged me to do a quick book so my name would be attached with the discovery. Sound advice. Here is what I wrote on my social media:

“History is made, I discovered his will. Andres de Tapia was a page for Columbus and a conquistador with Hernan Cortes. He would become Maestre de Campo and Teniente de Captain General of New Spain. He also discovered the Californias and wrote his own account of the conquest. It is fitting his descendant discovered his will. I wrote a quick “skeleton book” about it without the benefit of an editor. A second edition is underway and will be more expansive and thorough.  Despite the initial flaws, it is a great discovery and new source of information for historians, genealogists or history buff.”

  1. Very interesting. And, congratulations on your find. I am also researching Andres de Tapia, one of my ancestors, among other conquistadors.
Do you have a publication date for the revised book?

    1. Thank you. There will be no new genealogical information in the second edition just expanded merits and perhaps a Spanish text version with it. The current book does take his descendants to Nuevo Leon and details his wife’s Sosa Lineage, which is extensive. The revised will be released in Spring. Although, I have other books I’m currently working on.
